Ashley Murray has a Masters in environmental engineering and is currently working toward a PhD in the Energy and Resources
Group at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on development of a decision making tool for choosing
appropriate drinking water treatment and sanitation schemes in developing urban areas. Murray is the past president and
current activities director of Engineers for a Sustainable World-Berkeley, a student run non-profit organization that works with
underserved communities to help solve technology-related problems, and works to raise local awareness through education
about appropriate and sustainable development. To that end, she co-developed the curriculum for a technical, project-based
design course, Design for Sustainable Communities, which is being offered for the first time in spring 2006.
