Entrepreneurship Integration in the Mechanical Engineering Curriculum
Gregory Feierfeil & Lew Frasch,
Lawrence Technological University
For several years Lawrence Technological University has offered an elective Entrepreneurial Certificate Program. The focus of the program is to provide basic business knowledge and entrepreneurial skills for undergraduate mechanical engineering students. The benefits of the program, noted by industry advisors and student testimonials, have prompted a re-designing of the Mechanical Engineering curriculum to integrate entrepreneurial courses for all students. The new curriculum
will also modify the senior capstone design sequence to provide an expanded emphasis on engineering enterprises and encourage the formation of student E-Teams. Lessons learned from courses in the certificate program have allowed off-line course development and the subsequent movement of fully mature courses into the mainline curriculum.
